What trading costs

Almost nobody compares costs before opening an account, and it is one of the few things you can know for certain in advance. Here is what each one charges, with the date we checked it.

Last review: 2026-09-27. This page is reviewed every week. Each column shows when that figure was checked.

5 listing(s) have gone more than 30 days without being verified and are marked in red: Alpaca Crypto, Coinbase Advanced, Coinbase (simple app), Crypto.com App, Revolut (app). Their data is still shown, but do not take it as current.

Brokers for stocks, ETFs and CFDs

What buying and selling really costs. Watch the currency conversion: it often weighs more than the commission.

AUTOMATIC conversion: no separate commission, but IBKR adds or subtracts 0.03% on the exchange rate - fifteen times the manual route on large amounts The amount is NOT CONFIRMED, but we now know HOW it is charged. New execution policy in Spanish, version 07/2026 (assets.traderepublic.com/assets/files/ES_ExecutionPolicy.pdf): Trade Republic may act as counterparty at a fixed price and 'currency conversion is taken into account as an essential component of price determination'. In other words, the conversion goes INSIDE the buy/sell price, not as a separate commission, which is why it appears in no fee schedule. The table in article 526 (USD margin 0.0014) is still limited to dividends and corporate actions. TRAP NOTED: article 1656, which says they charge no conversion fee, is about payments with the Visa card, not securities 0.15% (0.5% on CFDs, not verified in this pass). It is the only commission it charges on Invest, ISA and SIPP. Avoidable with a multi-currency account (12 currencies). It does NOT apply to income from corporate events such as dividends; it DOES apply to buys and sells inside pies 0.5%, but these are TWO different things with the same number, and it pays not to confuse them. (1) Manual transfer of funds between your own accounts in different currencies: 0.5%, rising to 0.8% on weekends and holidays. (2) A 0.50% mark-up applied AUTOMATICALLY to the exchange rate on every trade and corporate action on real stocks and ETFs when the instrument is quoted in a currency different from the account currency - this one cannot be avoided. And if XTB does not quote the direct pair, it converts via USD and charges 0.5% ON EACH OF THE TWO STEPS: double cost

Argentina and Chile are not on any of its lists of accepted countries yes, all five - Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Peru are accepted in the official sign-up flow (checked 02-09-2026, with a negative control: the United States triggers 'Country not served'). Chile goes through a local entity, XTB Agente de Valores SpA, CMF registration no. 216; the other four through XTB International Limited (IFSC Belize), Latin America branch. NOTE: the Spanish fee schedule does NOT apply to them - a separate LATAM table applies, with the zero-commission threshold at 100,000 USD a month instead of 100,000 EUR. Brazil remains expressly excluded

And what does it cost you?

The table says what each one charges. This says what you would pay in a year. It is calculated in your browser: nothing is sent anywhere, and we do not ask for your email.

A «complete trade» means buying and selling: it counts two commissions and, if you change currency, two conversions. Exchange rate used: 1.16 USD per euro. 4 of 5 brokers have confirmed figures; the rest appear at the end saying which figure is missing — we prefer not to calculate rather than calculate wrong.

Bots and EAs ⛔ ANY EA that trades on its own is PROHIBITED — EVEN your own ('strictly prohibited... under any circumstances'). Only pre-approved management EAs (SL/TP/risk) on MT5. ⛔ 'No Automation or Algorithm Usage allowed' (official) — no bots or unattended systems; semi-automation only with a human present. No MT5 (Rithmic/Tradovate/WealthCharts). Yes — but ONLY EAs DEVELOPED BY YOU (commercial/third-party ones expressly prohibited). VPS allowed for EAs. Copying only between your own accounts. Yes — your own development (T&C 5.4: prohibited to use a commercial EA sold to several users or to replicate someone else's logic; correlation <0.95 with other people's DARWINs and <0.5 among your own for DarwinIA) Yes, any EA on MT5 — but 1 strategy per user (the same EA on several users = closure); they recommend your own EA. Copying only between your own accounts. Yes (your own is better than third-party) ⛔ CHANGE 2026-09-21: EAs, bots and ANY automated tool (including those that only modify SL/TP or lot size) PROHIBITED on accounts of $50,000 or more, Challenge and FundedNext Account — «must trade manually». Below 50k: EA allowed on MT4/MT5 only, with a non-refundable add-on fee, 1 strategy per EA, cap of $300k per strategy, EAs with Telegram/WhatsApp prohibited, blacklist of commercial EAs. cTrader and Match-Trader: never an EA. YOUR OWN EA with full automation allowed, but they require PROOF of ownership (.mq5 source, history, or video call). Third-party: only as a manager. YOUR OWN EA yes; third-party/off-the-shelf/'challenge-passers' = breach, and they may ask for the code (Prohibited Trading Practices, 27-Jul-2026, measured 2026-09-07). The EA FAQ still says 'any EA except HFT and Gold Arbitrage' — two texts coexist; the restrictive one prevails. Prohibited to switch from an EA in evaluation to manual in the funded account or vice versa. — ⛔ PROHIBITED (golden rule 5-Jul: no bots on Noctorial) ⚠️ CHANGE 2026-08-24 — IT REQUIRES THE SOURCE CODE AGAIN. The official FAQ (last update 22-Jul-2026) literally says: «Additionally, the trader must own the source code of the EA». Any EA is allowed except copying third-party signals, tick scalping, latency arbitrage, reverse arbitrage, hedge arbitrage, HFT and emulators. Visible SL mandatory (no stealth mode). The 17-Aug listing took that requirement as withdrawn since 24-02-2026: today it is back. RECONFIRMED 2026-08-31: the FAQ now carries the header 'last update: July 28, 2026' (edited since 22-Jul) and the source-code clause is still word for word. NEW in the same list: EAs that generate an excessive number of server requests by opening, modifying or cancelling orders are prohibited. Yes via the TopstepX/ProjectX API — ⚠️ PRICE 2026-08-17: $29/month with a permanent 50% off for Topstep Traders using the code 'topstep' → $14.50/month, «valid every month with no end date» (article 23-Jun-2026). BUT ⛔ VPS/VPN/remote servers PROHIBITED, CONFIRMED 2026-08-17 in the API article itself: «All trading activity must originate from your personal device. The use of VPS, VPNs, and remote servers is prohibited by Topstep's Terms of Use.» No MT5. HFT prohibited. NEW NUANCE 2026-08-31 (same article): a server of your own that watches and records IS allowed — history, backtesting, logs, analytics, a read-only dashboard, a copy of your fills/positions/P&L — but NOT one that places, modifies or cancels orders or routes them. Verbatim: «your server can watch and record, but it cannot trade».
Loss limit One: 6% trailing (locks at +6%), daily 4% · Pro/Three/Swing: static 6-10%, daily 3-5%. Breach on EQUITY (floating P&L counts). Reset 00:00 GMT+3. EOD: trailing on closing balance ($3,000 on 100k) + a daily loss that pauses · Intraday: INTRADAY trailing that follows the peak of FLOATING equity (the classic trap: you can be eliminated without closing at a loss). On a PA it freezes at initial+$100. · EOD variant (Mar-2026): threshold recalculated once a day at 4:59:59 PM ET on the closing balance (real-time execution if touched). Ability Challenge: p1 7.5% daily / 15% max. Verification and Live: 5% daily / 10% max. Maximum ALWAYS on initial balance, measured on EQUITY. STATIC daily limit: set at the 00:00 GMT+2 rollover on the greater of balance/equity and does NOT move during the day even if equity rises (measured 2026-08-24; the listing said 'GMT+2/+3', the official page says only GMT+2). NEW 2026-08-24: there is a $50K Ability ONE with a STATIC 6% absolute drawdown and a static 3% daily. ⚠️ The FTP (instant funding) is NOT static: it uses a 5% TRAILING on the MAXIMUM equity reached, applied continuously and not only at the rollover — a different and harsher rule than the challenge one. "No rules": no daily limit and no eliminating maximum (confirmed; the Risk Engine rescales, it does not disqualify). DarwinIA allocation: proprietary rating ≥75 (monthly return 22% + 6m return 67% + max DD 6m 11%); the Return/DD ≥2.5 filter is NOT confirmed as a current official criterion. One preset: 3% daily on the account's INITIAL balance / 4% dynamic (trailing on the highest closed balance, freezes on reaching the initial level). Customisable at checkout. Daily limit breached by EQUITY or balance (floating P&L counts). 2-Step: 5% daily / 10% max STATIC, on equity (floating P&L counts), daily recalculated at 00:00 CET · 1-Step: 3% daily / 10% end-of-day TRAILING (best balance at 00:00 CET, only rises) + Best Day Rule (best day ≤50%) Stellar 2-Step: 5% daily on the day's initial balance (reset 00:00 server time; the day's profits widen the margin) / 10% max · 1-Step 2026: variants up to 15% depending on the model · Instant: 6% trailing 2Step: 5% daily / 10% static · 1Step: 3%/6%. Daily on the GREATER of balance/equity with FLOATING P&L (touch it for an instant = out). Extra: Risk Per Trade Idea 2-3% (hard) + Striking System. 2-Step Standard: daily 5% at 5PM EST on the greater of balance/equity (fixed for the day, hard) · maximum 10% STATIC on initial · 2-Step GOAT 4%/10% · 2-Step PRO 4%/8%. ⚠️ Instant GOAT (the only one with VPS along with Hero): daily 3% 'TRAILING' calculated at 5PM EST on balance or equity (nuance measured 2026-09-21) + maximum 6% TRAILING on the HIGHEST equity (reset after each payout) + floating loss -2% = permanent closure, 15% consistency, 5 valid days. Instant Hero: 3% daily trailing + 5% trailing on equity (the page itself also calls it 'Trailing End-of-Day' — their ambiguity) + floating -1% = closure, 6 valid days. — Programme 32986 (email 10-Jul): MaxRisk 3% of capital per asset/day · Public docs 1-Phase (article 9-Apr-2026): 8% TRAILING on the initial balance (rises with closed-balance highs; breach measured on EQUITY) + 4% dynamic daily on the greater of balance/equity at the start of the day + Equity Guard 3% combined floating (closes everything, no breach) + 25% consistency per trade on the withdrawal High Stakes: 10% max STATIC on initial + 5% daily on the GREATER of equity/balance at 00:00 server time · Hyper Growth 6% max MLL trailing on the END-OF-DAY closing balance ($3,000 on 100k), freezes on reaching the initial level. The only hard rule of the Combine.
